One of the reasons why I was so excited about going to Lake Como was the amazing hiking scenery: I could not wait to climb up to the mountains to admire the beautiful lake view. Finding hiking routes near our place ended up being much more difficult than I thought, and I could not find a good online resource which would have covered them well. However, I did not let this get to me and we actually went hiking twice during our short holiday.
Our longest and most impressive hike at Lake Como started from the little village of Rovenna and continued up to the Rifugio Bugone, a small and simple mountain restaurant at the altitude of 1200m. Our way up went through some pretty heavy vegetation which also meant we did not have much of a view. Luckily, this changed when we reached the top ๐
After having a great meat and cheese appetizer and unfortunately bland main courses at the sympathetic Rifugio Bugone, we started heading back down. We took partially the same trail as coming up but at Monte di Lenno turned towards Moltrasio. The last part of our return trip was the most scenic part of the hike and overall very nice. This is also where we encountered a large snake which made some people in our group a bit jumpy for the rest of the hikeโฆ
Would I recommend this hike? Why not if you are in the region and donโt want to drive too far, but be aware that large part of the trail is inside the forest without a view.
