If you are interested in visiting the old and authentic fishing village of Tai O, one option is to hike there from Tung Chung. I did this hike with Hong Kong Hikers (track details from another hiker), but this track is easy to follow also alone as long as you can find the starting point 🙂
The trail goes on the shore of Lantau with views to the new bridge built to Macau. Views are nice, but definitely not the best of Hong Kong. The trail itself is relatively flat, so anyone who can walk 14km in general can definitely handle this hike as long as they have enough fluids.
The trail ends in Tai O, from where you can return to Tung Chung either with a small ferry or a bus.
