Just few minutes after passing the gates for Grietjie while still on the way for our lodge, we had our first encounter with the African wildlife as a huge herd of Elephants passed the dirt road, some of them in front and some behind our car. Luckily we had not yet heard that some of them were in heat and thus could get aggressive towards cars…
After this encounter, our drive continued for another 9km on a dirt road until we arrived at our home for the next 3 nights: the luxurious Casart Game Lodge.
The lodge has a spacious common area, both indoor and outdoor, where all the meals were served and where you could also admire the views to the reserve from the deck and enjoy its infinity pool. After dinner (which by they way was excellent every evening) they also lit up the fire place outside on the deck.
The lodge had 3 individual cottages for sleeping: 2 with 1 bedroom, and 1 with 2 bedrooms, meaning our group got the entire place for ourselves! Oh, and the best thing: the 1-bedroom cottages had large private hot tubs / jacuzzis on the decks – perfect for relaxing and having a glass of wine after a game drive or admiring the stars at night!!!
